Cervical cancer screening and HPV vaccination - cervical cancer is one of the most common cancers in females caused by Human papilloma virus ( HPV ) Screening at regular intervals helps in its early detection and treatment. 3-5 hrly per speculum examination with Paps smear, liquid based cytology, HPV DNA tests are done for screening .
Cervical cancer vaccine is one of the most effective vaccines available that can help prevent cervical cancers. It also helps in preventing vaginal , vulvar, Penile, anal, oropharyngeal cancers and genital warts caused by HPV. All females from the age of 9 yrs till 45 yrs should receive this vaccine. 2 doses are needed for 9-14 yr olds and 3 doses for those 15 yrs old and above.
